Sharon "Sherry" Sue Mahon
Sharon “Sherry” Mahon, age 79, of Balaton, MN passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at her daughters home in Clear Lake, SD. Celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13th at the Watertown Christian Church in Watertown, SD with Pastor Gerald Volk officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Sharon Mahon, a "simple woman who had a lot of love to give", left this world for her heavenly reward on Saturday, August 30th 2025. She was born in Lima, Ohio on November 8th, 1945, to Jacob and Wilma Staats, and joined her two brothers, Jacob and William Staats, as well as her sister, Juna (Konst) Staats as a cherished baby sister.
She spent her childhood and high school years in Lima, OH, and then left for college where she studied Elementary Education, and fell in love with the culture and people she surrounded herself with.
Her life was spent in the service of others: raising six children, working in a homeless shelter for troubled teen girls, and providing a temporary home for hundreds of foster children. She touched many lives with her joy, love, and a determination to help those in need, all of which knew no bounds. She was determined to improve the world one person at a time.
She often maintained that her children were her legacy and joy. She is survived by two sons, Michael and Robert; four daughters, Heather, Rebecca, Shannon, and Amanda; six grandchildren, Lilliana, Anna, Sophia, Clara, Arthur, and Blythe, one great grandchild Rosie; as well as countless other children whose lives she touched.
Her life reminds us that family, whether by blood or by choice, is the most import thing, that we should meet others where they are, and we are to love them unconditionally. While her body and soul are now at rest, her spirit of gentleness and generosity will echo through the ages. She will be missed.
The memorial service will be held at Watertown Christian Church on September 13th at 10 am, with a livestream for those who are unable to attend in person. Flowers are being handled by HyVee in Watertown. All are welcome to stay for a small reception after.
